SkillForce
Skill Force is an educational charity working with disadvantaged young people who are unlikely to achieve in mainstream school. Aimed at preventing NEET, our programmes support students to become valued, contributing members of our society by enabling them to go on from compulsory education into further education, employment or training. We identify students who are most in need of our specialist help, typically including:
• social and behavioural problems
• risk of exclusion from school
• frequent truancy
• lack of direction, motivation and
self esteem
• lack of academic achievement
The Skill Force programme draws
together vocational qualifications, community volunteering and life skills.
Specific attention is given to positive outcomes: building confidence and
self-esteem, and developing team working, problem solving and leadership
skills. Our programme runs with students in school within school time, 70% of
their time is spent in the classroom, 30% is spent on activities and sports
outside the classroom that support the programme, and this includes a
residential. The instructors spend one full school day a week with the students
for two years enabling them to build a solid relationship with the pupils. We
have a proven track record of preventing exclusions and gaining students
recognised qualifications.
Our 3 pillars of Community, Character
and Contribution establish a strong framework for young people to study in a
way that brings learning to life. Within each pillar goals are set, activities
are undertaken, achievements are recorded and progress is monitored. The study
of the C3 Award provides each young person regardless of their ability the
opportunity to enter adult life with the skills they need as well as achieving
awards and qualifications necessary for employers and further education.
