Old Ford Primary School
Old Ford Primary School
Old Ford Primary School, in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, is working with the community to raise standards and develop a culture that values learning, aspiration and achievement. A major challenge for the school has been the low levels of language and social development of children entering their Foundation Stage. Parents have asked for help with managing relationships and with handling challenging behaviour. The school is also developing a range of new roles to support hard to reach families and their children.
Project Highlights
•As a result of a consultation with the community, a teaching programme entitled, 'English for Speakers of Other Languages' (ESOL) was created to support parents in the Foundation Stage.
•Parents, who had never left the neighbourhood and had lacked confidence in using public transport now volunteer to join family days out as a result of the programme.
•A series of sessions entitled 'Strengthening family' have helped parents to manage their children’s behaviour more effectively.
