E2E Success

E2E is a roll on, roll off programme. Each student is generally with us for roughly 22 weeks, but it’s been difficult to find a way to accredit their work. The ASDAN Enterprise and Activities Awards have provided the answer. They are both Short Courses that can be tailored exactly to what the student is doing at the time and the student books provide a means to evaluate their tasks and activities.

Our learners have varied backgrounds, interests and abilities. We encourage them to set objectives and create their own programmes of work.

The ASDAN Enterprise Award has helped our learners to develop a range of transferable skills. One student, Gemma Pock, devised an event called the Youth Culture Awareness Swindon Carnival; a showcase for young people to demonstrate their talents and skills. Although the event has been postponed to later this year, the project was a great learning experience for her, as she explained: “The Enterprise project helped us get a better idea of what we need to do to set up a business. The activities also helped me to organise my work a lot better. Enterprise is such a brilliant thing to get involved in. It’s given me a much wider outlook and has helped me to develop more as a person.”

Gemma also used the ASDAN Activities Award to accredit her photography work, which involved creating a diary of photos over a 10-week period and selecting the best shots. Gemma successfully completed her E2E course and received the Award for Best Overall E2E Student at the Swindon College 2009 Awards.
