Tots 'n' Teens
The Youth Achievement Awards
The Youth Achievement Awardsare a project based approach to education and are available through youth organisations, schools and educational projects. In order to achieve an Award, young people must begin a project which requires them to take on increasing levels of responsibility for their work, helping them to develop a sense of ownership over their activities and the learning involved. The Awards enable young people to build self-awareness, self-esteem, communication and negotiation skills and teach young people how to work with others in teams.
Tots ‘n’ Teens
Two young parents in Northumberland are setting up a parents and toddlers group called ‘Tots ‘n’ Teens’. Through the discipline of taking part in the Youth Achievement Awards they have been able to structure their work and clarify the long-term project goals of the group. With their successful parents and toddlers group they are now looking to work with local community members and the Northumberland County Youth Service to be classified as a professional Youth Provision Service. When they saw how Youth Achievement Awards could help qualify them for professional work they were delighted, as neither had any GCSE’s from their school days. As well as demonstrating the value of their achievement to others, their self-esteem has risen amazingly through the Youth Achievement Award process.
