Northampton Fire and Rescue Service and Wider Key Skills
In partnership with Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service, ASDAN has produced a bespoke resource to support their ARC (action, reaction, consequence) and Young Fire Fighters activity programmes, designed to give young people a chance to gain up to three qualifications while taking part in the Fire Service's Youth Diversion Schemes. The first ARC programme has led to Year 9 and 10 students undertaking the Wider Key Skill Qualification Improving Own learning and Performance (IOLP) qulaification as part of their ARC programme. Mark Foster Youth Diversion Officer for Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service commented "“The youth diversion qualification produced as a result of this partnership has helped us to engage with schools and education welfare officers more easily through shared outcomes; but more importantly it allows the service to offer qualifications for young people that can directly improve their long term employment prospects and opportunities"
This youth diversion qualification initiative will be included in the Communities and Local Government (CLG) Children and Young People's Strategy for Fire and Rescue Services as an example of good practice in engaging with young people.
