Young First Aiders
In partnership with St John Ambulance, ASDAN offers the Wider Key Skill Improving Own Learning and Performance as a qualification outcome for the Young First Aider certificate. A pilot involving three schools at an Education Business Partnership in Coventry resulted in learners achieving the Young First Aider certificate and Wider Key Skill Improving Own Learning Performance qualifications at Levels 1 and 2.
Two full-day sessions enabled Key Stage 4 students to engage with life-saving skills, and demonstrate their improved knowledge and practical performance through a Wider Key Skill qualification. All learners who completed the programme and submitted Wider Key Skills portfolios were successful in gaining a qualification outcome. There are now plans to promote this model on a national scale and train deliverers of first aid.
