There is currently a lot of debate about what is appropriate education in supporting young people for today, and to prepare them for an uncertain tomorrow. A debate about what skills and knowledge are most important; debate about the relationships in learning at home, school and non-formal education; debate about the role of technology in and out of school; debate about how we understand what it is to be ‘an educated person’ and an ‘active citizen’. What is clear, despite all of these debates, is that education must support young people to be able to act and shape a complex world. Recognising how the range of educational experiences can be offered is vital and Futurelab is supporting the Whole Education movement because it has an important role in bringing together people and organisations who are working to do this.
