Helping the environment in Cornwall
Youth Achievement Awards with the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers
Young people in Cornwall have been out and about doing practical conservation tasks around the county with British Trust for Conservation Volunteers. BTCV is the UK’s largest practical conservation charity. Five young people (Jamie Prior, Matt Crocker, Gavin Morshead, David Thorning and Sarah Dennis) are doing their Bronze Youth Achievement Awards and have been involved in some really exciting conservation projects. These include clearing Rhododendron to control the spread of Sudden Oak death in woodland, learning traditional hedge laying skills on Bodmin Moor and conserving the habitat of one of the UK’s most endangered butterfly species, the Marsh Fritillary. “I am really proud of the work these guys have done. They have achieved so much and have made a real difference to their local environment.”
Victoria Smith, Youth Project Officer for Cornwall.
