The Elmgreen School
The Elmgreen School is an 11-18 specialist co-educational Humanities College serving the local community. It is unique in being the first parent promoted school in England. It opened in September 2007 to its first cohort of 180 students. It is now housed in a brand new building on Elmcourt Road with extensive modern facilities.
Our aim is to be a successful and inclusive school that works in close partnership with families and the community to achieve the best for our young people irrespective of gender, race or social background. We expect our students to achieve and fulfil their potential and receive a better education here than they would at any other establishment. We are working tirelessly to secure this aim for our community.
We provide an environment where every individual is highly valued and where they in turn care for others, the school and the community. This is ‘The Elmgreen Way’ which provides the direction for our happy, supportive and orderly environment where students, families, staff and governors are committed to the highest standards in everything that they do.
All students have the right to a high quality education that equips them with the qualifications they need to progress to college, university or their chosen career. We have created a flexible and personalised curriculum that enables all students to find an appropriate pathway tailored to their individual needs so that they can be successful during their time here and beyond.
Mission
At The Elmgreen School we will work to make our students become effective, active, responsible citizens, who will work and learn in an environment that encourages an understanding of human values and attitudes.
Aims
Through our specialist status we will:
Raise the standards of achievement across the school by developing innovative approaches to teaching and learning, developing and sharing good practice.
Provide learning experiences beyond the classroom.
Provide our students with the skills needed to progress into employment, further training and higher education according to their individual abilities, aptitudes and ambitions.
Develop our students to become critical, analytical, reflective learners able to make a positive contribution as responsible active citizens.
Be an active partner in a learning society with our local families of schools and their communities, sharing resources and developing and sharing good practice.
Enable learners to participate more fully in their local and wider community.
Celebrate cultural diversity.
Work in partnership with local business and industry, to enhance opportunities for work related learning and lifelong learning in the context of Humanities.
