East Bergholt CEVC Primary School

As a school we are committed to raising standards of attainment and achievement through a creative, fun and motivating curriculum. Our curriculum is theme-based and gives all our children the opportunity to reach their full potential. We have high expectations of learning and behaviour within a nurturing and caring environment.

School Council

Every September we hold elections to select two pupils from each class to represent their peers on the School Council. These Council members are the voice of the children and they meet regularly to raise any problems brought to them by other pupils. They also put forward and discuss ways of improving the school and ideas for charity events. Their input is important and they have been involved in interviewing applicants for the position of Deputy Head.

Creative Curriculum

Our creative curriculum provides our children with an exciting and stimulating learning environment. It is relevant to pupils' life experiences and it inspires and engages them in their learning and enables them to work in a flexible and collaborative way using their imagination.

The Foundation Stage (Reception Class)

The Foundation Stage curriculum is based on six areas of learning:

  • Personal, social and emotional development,
  • Communication, language and literacy,
  • Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy,
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the world,
  • Physical development and creative development

We believe in a play-based curriculum teaching through themes and providing opportunities for practical child-led first-hand experience. Outdoor play sessions in our own separate Foundation Garden allow the children to extend their learning. Progress is assessed using the Foundation Stage Profile, which is updated regularly through a mixture of observations, questioning and the assessment of recorded work.

The National Curriculum (Yr 1 – 6)

We offer an exciting and stimulating creative curriculum based on the thematic approach. Starting from the children’s interests and suggestions, topics are planned to include all National Curriculum subjects.

We aim to link our themes closely to ongoing projects including our partnership with Buhumba Primary School, Uganda and other resources available to us locally.

Our aim is for the children to be fully involved independent learners who will leave our school with a positive attitude towards their learning having achieved a high standard of attainment.
