Taking place: Alternating Wednesdays, 11am
During this challenging time, it is more important than ever to be part of a network; to have the space to talk to colleagues, hear what they are doing and share ideas.
Our WE Primary peer support network virtual meetings are designed to support you during this challenging time. They are an opportunity to learn with and from colleagues across the country during this fast-moving situation. They are based around schools sharing what they are doing that others might benefit from, and what they’re challenged by and would like others to feedback on.
Playful learning and continuous provision at KS1 at Woodgrange Infant School
Woodgrange Infant School will share the story of how they have committed to playful learning, continuously across KS1.
The school began this journey after noticing how unhappy and unmotivated many children were upon transition to KS1. They decided to begin Year 1 with the same routine and provision the children were familiar with from their Reception year. They immediately noticed the children were happier and demonstrated high levels of well-being and engagement, leading to marked progress.
In order to create a “bridge” not a wall between Year 1 and Year 2 they continued the approach into Year 2 in 2019-20. Across the year, they realised in trying to strike a balance between play and more formal requirements in Year 2 it meant neither approach was delivered well.
They decided therefore from September 2020 to fully commit to playful learning in Year 2 and remove the final barriers (furniture and staff fears as they develop teacher/ TA expertise, commitment and practice).
