Our WE Inspire Primary network virtual meetings are a great opportunity to hear from, and be inspired by, schools who are successfully providing a high-quality whole education.
These events run monthly on Wednesdays, 11am-12pm, and are hosted by Jo Corrigan, Director of Primary at WE.
Wednesday 8th December2pm
Mayfield Primary School & Leeds Beckett University on the ADVOST project
The ADVOST research project (Socially Innovative Interventions to Foster and to Advance Young Children’s Inclusion and Agency in society through Voice and Story) included case studies conducted in the United Kingdom, Finland and Canada. All three case studies explored how the promotion of children’s voices and agency might support social cohesion and wellbeing. The ADVOST project sought to provide a deeper understanding of how teachers were using pedagogical approaches to facilitate the voices and agency of all young children in ways that valued and honoured the cultural diversity they bring to the classroom.
In the UK case study, the researchers worked with early years practitioners and their pupils in two primary schools to collaboratively explore how student voice might be utilised as a pedagogical tool to improve learning. As European society becomes increasingly diverse, the project findings have both policy and practice implications. Findings from the project contributes to knowledge of culturally sensitive ways for practitioners to enact this way of working.
This session will specifically focus on the notion of trust required between the different stakeholders within educational settings to ensure the successful use of student voice as a pedagogical tool; leadership trusting staff to make the right choices for their pupils, staff trusting the pupils to engage with learning if the conditions are right and pupils learning to trust staff to listen and respond to their voices.
