Question or focus area: Attendance
Scanning
To question one of the questionnaire (Name two people who believe you are a success) Children who were persistently absence (P.A) from School (<90%) did not state one member of staff.
Focus
Why do P.A students have a belief that their teachers and support staff do not believe they are a success?
Do P.A students spend less time building positive relationships?
Hunch
P.A students interactions with staff a less often than good attenders and not as positive.
New professional learning
N/a – Too early in my ‘taking action’ phase to give a reasonable answer at this stage.
Taking action
I have developed a Breakfast club for a select few of P.A students in one year group. The students were selected because they did not have a reason for being P.A (holiday, illness etc)
P.A can bring as many friends as they like. The club takes place on a Friday mornings, before school – between 8am and 8:45am.
Checking
I have current attendance data of the P.A students and I will track their attendance for the duration of the club.
Reflections/Advice
I have learnt to trust the questionnaire’s findings and lead from there.
I am currently finding it difficult to attract all the students on the list. I will be contacting those students to find out why and adapt from there.
