Reading Conference 2023

Leading Reading for Whole School Improvement

The Reading Conference, brought to you by Whole Education’s Words for All programme and GL Assessment, will be held on Thursday 9th November 2023 at Swiss Cottage Library.  The day will feature a mix of expert speakers and networking discussions aimed at supporting and inspiring leaders to drive sustainable school improvement through reading.

We’re delighted to announce our keynote speaker, Alex Quigley. Alex is the author of books including ‘Closing the Vocabulary Gap’ and ‘The Confident Teacher’ and he regularly writes columns for TES and Teach Secondary magazines. Alex co-authored the EEF's ‘Metacognition and self-regulated learning' and 'Improving Literacy in Secondary Schools' guidance reports.

Over the course of the day, the conference will address the following key strands: 

  • Improving reading fluency through targeted intervention

  • Removing barriers for those who struggle with reading fluency

  • Improving reading comprehension through developing students' vocabulary

  • Improving reading comprehension through developing students' background knowledge

  • Improving reading comprehension through developing reading strategies

The conference will take place between 9am-4pm.
